I’ve shared with you before about my deep relationship with my journal. If you’re new to this blog, don’t click away right now because this sentence scares you about my mental well being! I’m not crazy, I promise. We all talk to God in different ways. Journaling just happens to be my way. I talk, but I also listen, with my pen.
Today, I’m going to share with you what I journaled on the night of September 14th, 2019. Earlier that day, in a short half an hour session, I saw exactly what I wanted my life to look like.
here was my inscription…
“Today we photographed one of the most special sessions of our careers. Pat and Jerre Brannen are one of Malcolm Privette’s greatest influences. Jerre Brannen knows God like not many do. He was near death just days ago. Yet he told his family, “More people need to know about Jesus.”
He is right. And, we also needed to do what we did today.
As Paul photographed his (Jerre’s) wife, of over 50 years, he said, “I told God thank you for sending me one of your angels.” Then when we told him to make her smile, he belted out the Hallelujah chorus like a man 50 years younger. As he watched us photograph his wife, he wept.
He knows his time on earth is nearing the end. It’s almost like he could explode with his love for her and he didn’t know how to compose himself. Then he told the story of how they first met. He was overcome.
As I watched this beautiful moment unfold, as my newborn son slept wrapped up on my chest, and my husband was hiding his tears behind the camera… I realized, this is what we all really hope for at the end of our lives. A spouse who loves us and whom we cherish in return. A family and generations who will live on and impact the world with the Gospel. And a legacy… of being a man, or woman after God’s own heart.
Jerre Brannen has accomplished in his lifetime what God put him, and all of us, here to do. I think today I saw him realize that he had done so.”
My hope is that this post will find the hearts of those who need it today.
With Much Love,
Kristin
